Review
Fear No Evil presents the idea of evil in practical, modern terms that can help us face our negative life experiences with a new light of understanding that will transform our personal pain into joy and pleasure. --Barbara Brennan, author of Hands of Light and Light Emerging

I would advise that this book be read with a willingness to take time to digest what is being said. This is not light reading, though it is Light reading, I assure you. --Pat Rodegast, author of Emmanuel's Books

One way to discern the value of a person's connection with the inner worlds is to observe the positive effects, if any that result from that communication. The Pathwork has been a most positive result of such a contact, helping many people find a deeper truth and clarity in their lives; therefore the energy and spirit embodied in these transmissions that gave birth to the Pathwork deserve our consideration, for they have demonstrated their value in the blessings they have already made possible. --David Spangler, author of The Call and A Pilgrim in Aquarius

The Relationship of Evil to the Individual
By Jacques Koenig
The material from the channelings of Eva Pierrakos comes from a very deep source. Psychologically it goes directly to the point and can thus help individuals gain greater clarity and insight into their own essential nature. With the repeated mass murders in the news these days, the question of evil is being raised once again. This book addresses the nature and source of evil and its relationship to the individual. All the Eva Pierrakos material I have read so far reaches a depth of understanding that very few other sources attain. I therefore recommend it to those who do serious work on self.

THE KEY
By Nick
Whilst trying to get to the core of my sense of numbness and frustration I kept getting Pathwork Lectures popping up on google, whenever I had tough questions. So eventually I started reading more and more of the material ,which lead me to the books (that come from the lectures). This book along with her book Self-Transformation are the most profound life-changing self-help/spirituality books I have ever read (I have read a ton of them and I am picky), the reading and applying of the pathwork self-confrontation was the KEY that I needed to not only identify the core of my pain and sense of lostness but also COMING OUT OF IT. SOCIAL ANXIETY, SHAME, GUILT, SELF-ABUSE, DESPAIR....This works. Eva was tapped into something awesome. I am actually gaining peace after 30 years.

One of the most profound books that exists
By Per
I've worked with this book for about 20 years, and I find it one of the most profound and fundamental books that exists. I only bought it again for my Kindle to have it electronically.

This book contains a lifetime of work, and it takes some time to unravel. It deals with the layer of the personality pathwork calls the "idealized self" or perfect self, which we all create to solve the problem of our weaknesses when we're very young. Basically, we skip personal growth and instantly improve, so we're better, stronger, more moral, tougher, more resilient. But then this self, with standards we never can live up to, splits off and becomes an inner enemy that we can never live up to.

I always felt that their model of understanding made logical sense, but it has taken me about 15 years to start experiencing this layer to my psychology first-hand. It really is THE most fundamental problem that human beings face, and on the other side of it is genuine personal growth, genuine happiness and a very tender lack of self-criticism, and a self-compassion. But it's so deep in our wiring that it's not really possible to just sit down with this book, read it, and have a transformation.

20 years ago, this book fell off a bookshelf by accident, and I started reading it, and I was intrigued. I feel that I'm now in a place where the transformation that is discussed in the book is possible for me, because I can see how it works, and I've exhausted all other options.

I don't know how to recommend this book enough. It's in a completely different league than everything else that I've read. But it's a personal journey towards actual self-transformation, and it's work. But for people who want to truly become free and self-loving again, it's logically impossible to avoid this path. Whether you do it with pathwork or something else doesn't matter. But the idealized self is the fundamental issue that humanity deals with.

Herbal Emissaries, by Steven Foster, Yue Chongxi

This extensive and engaging book--the first collaboration between a Chinese scientist and an American author and herbalist--blends traditional wisdom from both cultures with scientific verification of the medical effectiveness of many ancient Chinese plants, thereby deepening our knowledge of and appreciation for ornamentals whose usefulness extends far beyond their beauty.

More plants have been introduced from China to American and European gardens than from any other part of the world.
Many of the Asian species grown as ornamentals--such as daylilies, forsythia, gardenia, peonies, crape myrtle, and mums--are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine.
The authors supply specific techniques for cultivating Chinese herbs and flowers in Western gardens, as well as for using them medicinally.

From Library Journal
Since 1949, China has worked to integrate traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and modern Western medicine, so that today both systems are used, along with a blend of the two. TCM is now researched using scientific methods at institutions such as the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, where Chongxi is a pharmacognosist. He has also authored numerous works on herbal medicine. Foster has authored several herb books (and coauthored the Peterson Field Guide to Medicinal Plants , Houghton, 1990). The authors introduce Western readers to a blend of the two systems by describing about 50 plants used in TCM that are also known to Westerners as ornamentals, weeds, or herbs (e.g., day lilies, gardenias, honeysuckle, privet, and forsythia). They cover in detail the uses, history, dosage, descriptions, cultivation, and processing of each plant. An excellent resource for alternative medicine collections.

Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

Chapter One

Bronwyn

Monday, September 24, 2:55 p.m.

A sex tape. A pregnancy scare. Two cheating scandals. And that’s just this week’s update. If all you knew of Bayview High was Simon Kelleher’s gossip app, you’d wonder how anyone found time to go to class.

“Old news, Bronwyn,” says a voice over my shoulder. “Wait till you see tomorrow’s post.”

Damn. I hate getting caught reading About That, especially by its creator. I lower my phone and slam my locker shut. “Whose lives are you ruining next, Simon?”

Simon falls into step beside me as I move against the flow of students heading for the exit. “It’s a public service,” he says with a dismissive wave. “You tutor Reggie Crawley, don’t you? Wouldn’t you rather know he has a camera in his bedroom?”

I don’t bother answering. Me getting anywhere near the bedroom of perpetual stoner Reggie Crawley is about as likely as Simon growing a conscience.

“Anyway, they bring it on themselves. If people didn’t lie and cheat, I’d be out of business.” Simon’s cold blue eyes take in my lengthening strides. “Where are you rushing off to? Covering yourself in extracurricular glory?”

I wish. As if to taunt me, an alert crosses my phone: Mathlete practice, 3 p.m., Epoch Coffee. Followed by a text from one of my teammates: Evan’s here.

Of course he is. The cute Mathlete--less of an oxymoron than you might think--seems to only ever show up when I can’t.

“Not exactly,” I say. As a general rule, and especially lately, I try to give Simon as little information as possible. We push through green metal doors to the back stairwell, a dividing line between the dinginess of the original Bayview High and its bright, airy new wing. Every year more wealthy families get priced out of San Diego and come fifteen miles east to Bayview, expecting that their tax dollars will buy them a nicer school experience than popcorn ceilings and scarred linoleum.

Simon’s still on my heels when I reach Mr. Avery’s lab on the third floor, and I half turn with my arms crossed. “Don’t you have someplace to be?”

“Yeah. Detention,” Simon says, and waits for me to keep walking. When I grasp the knob instead, he bursts out laughing. “You’re kidding me. You too? What’s your crime?”

“I’m wrongfully accused,” I mutter, and yank the door open. Three other students are already seated, and I pause to take them in. Not the group I would have predicted. Except one.

Nate Macauley tips his chair back and smirks at me. “You make a wrong turn? This is detention, not student council.”

He should know. Nate’s been in trouble since fifth grade, which is right around the time we last spoke. The gossip mill tells me he’s on probation with Bayview’s finest for . . . something. It might be a DUI; it might be drug dealing. He’s a notorious supplier, but my knowledge is purely theoretical.

“Save the commentary.” Mr. Avery checks something off on a clipboard and closes the door behind Simon. High arched windows lining the back wall send triangles of afternoon sun splashing across the floor, and faint sounds of football practice float from the field behind the parking lot below.

I take a seat as Cooper Clay, who’s palming a crumpled piece of paper like a baseball, whispers “Heads up, Addy” and tosses it toward the girl across from him. Addy Prentiss blinks, smiles uncertainly, and lets the ball drop to the floor.

The classroom clock inches toward three, and I follow its progress with a helpless feeling of injustice. I shouldn’t even be here. I should be at Epoch Coffee, flirting awkwardly with Evan Neiman over differential equations.

Mr. Avery is a give-detention-first, ask-questions-never kind of guy, but maybe there’s still time to change his mind. I clear my throat and start to raise my hand until I notice Nate’s smirk broadening. “Mr. Avery, that wasn’t my phone you found. I don’t know how it got into my bag. This is mine,” I say, brandishing my iPhone in its melon-striped case.

Honestly, you’d have to be clueless to bring a phone to Mr. Avery’s lab. He has a strict no-phone policy and spends the first ten minutes of every class rooting through backpacks like he’s head of airline security and we’re all on the watch list. My phone was in my locker, like always.

“You too?” Addy turns to me so quickly, her blond shampoo-ad hair swirls around her shoulders. She must have been surgically removed from her boyfriend in order to show up alone. “That wasn’t my phone either.”

“Me three,” Cooper chimes in. His Southern accent makes it sound like thray. He and Addy exchange surprised looks, and I wonder how this is news to them when they’re part of the same clique. Maybe überpopular people have better things to talk about than unfair detentions.

“Somebody punked us!” Simon leans forward with his elbows on the desk, looking spring-loaded and ready to pounce on fresh gossip. His gaze darts over all four of us, clustered in the middle of the otherwise empty classroom, before settling on Nate. “Why would anybody want to trap a bunch of students with mostly spotless records in detention? Seems like the sort of thing that, oh, I don’t know, a guy who’s here all the time might do for fun.”

I look at Nate, but can’t picture it. Rigging detention sounds like work, and everything about Nate--from his messy dark hair to his ratty leather jacket--screams Can’t be bothered. Or yawns it, maybe. He meets my eyes but doesn’t say a word, just tips his chair back even farther. Another millimeter and he’ll fall right over.

Cooper sits up straighter, a frown crossing his Captain America face. “Hang on. I thought this was just a mix-up, but if the same thing happened to all of us, it’s somebody’s stupid idea of a prank. And I’m missing baseball practice because of it.” He says it like he’s a heart surgeon being detained from a lifesaving operation.

Mr. Avery rolls his eyes. “Save the conspiracy theories for another teacher. I’m not buying it. You all know the rules against bringing phones to class, and you broke them.” He gives Simon an especially sour glance. Teachers know About That exists, but there’s not much they can do to stop it. Simon only uses initials to identify people and never talks openly about school. “Now listen up. You’re here until four. I want each of you to write a five-hundred-word essay on how technology is ruining American high schools. Anyone who can’t follow the rules gets another detention tomorrow.”

“What do we write with?” Addy asks. “There aren’t any computers here.” Most classrooms have Chromebooks, but Mr. Avery, who looks like he should have retired a decade ago, is a holdout.

Mr. Avery crosses to Addy’s desk and taps the corner of a lined yellow notepad. We all have one. “Explore the magic of longhand writing. It’s a lost art.”

Addy’s pretty, heart-shaped face is a mask of confusion. “But how do we know when we’ve reached five hundred words?”

“Count,” Mr. Avery replies. His eyes drop to the phone I’m still holding. “And hand that over, Miss Rojas.”

“Doesn’t the fact that you’re confiscating my phone twice give you pause? Who has two phones?” I ask. Nate grins, so quick I almost miss it. “Seriously, Mr. Avery, somebody was playing a joke on us.”

Mr. Avery’s snowy mustache twitches in annoyance, and he extends his hand with a beckoning motion. “Phone, Miss Rojas. Unless you want a return visit.” I give it over with a sigh as he looks disapprovingly at the others. “The phones I took from the rest of you earlier are in my desk. You’ll get them back after detention.” Addy and Cooper exchange amused glances, probably because their actual phones are safe in their backpacks.

Mr. Avery tosses my phone into a drawer and sits behind the teacher’s desk, opening a book as he prepares to ignore us for the next hour. I pull out a pen, tap it against my yellow notepad, and contemplate the assignment. Does Mr. Avery really believe technology is ruining schools? That’s a pretty sweeping statement to make over a few contraband phones. Maybe it’s a trap and he’s looking for us to contradict him instead of agree.

I glance at Nate, who’s bent over his notepad writing computers suck over and over in block letters.

It’s possible I’m overthinking this.

Cooper

Monday, September 24, 3:05 p.m.

My hand hurts within minutes. It’s pathetic, I guess, but I can’t remember the last time I wrote anything longhand. Plus I’m using my right hand, which never feels natural no matter how many years I’ve done it. My father insisted I learn to write right-handed in second grade after he first saw me pitch. Your left arm’s gold, he told me. Don’t waste it on crap that don’t matter. Which is anything but pitching as far as he’s concerned.

That was when he started calling me Cooperstown, like the baseball hall of fame. Nothing like putting a little pressure on an eight-year-old.

Simon reaches for his backpack and roots around, unzipping every section. He hoists it onto his lap and peers inside. “Where the hell’s my water bottle?”

“No talking, Mr. Kelleher,” Mr. Avery says without looking up.

“I know, but--my water bottle’s missing. And I’m thirsty.”

Mr. Avery points toward the sink at the back of the room, its counter crowded with beakers and petri dishes. “Get yourself a drink. Quietly.”

Simon gets up and grabs a cup from a stack on the counter, filling it with water from the tap. He heads back to his seat and puts the cup on his desk, but seems distracted by Nate’s methodical writing. “Dude,” he says, kicking his sneaker against the leg of Nate’s desk. “Seriously. Did you put those phones in our backpacks to mess with us?”

Now Mr. Avery looks up, frowning. “I said quietly, Mr. Kelleher.”

Nate leans back and crosses his arms. “Why would I do that?”

Simon shrugs. “Why do you do anything? So you’ll have company for whatever your screw-up of the day was?”

“One more word out of either of you and it’s detention tomorrow,” Mr. Avery warns.

Simon opens his mouth anyway, but before he can speak there’s the sound of tires squealing and then the crash of two cars hitting each other. Addy gasps and I brace myself against my desk like somebody just rear-ended me. Nate, who looks glad for the interruption, is the first on his feet toward the window. “Who gets into a fender bender in the school parking lot?” he asks.

Bronwyn looks at Mr. Avery like she’s asking for permission, and when he gets up from his desk she heads for the window as well. Addy follows her, and I finally unfold myself from my seat. Might as well see what’s going on. I lean against the ledge to look outside, and Simon comes up beside me with a disparaging laugh as he surveys the scene below.

Two cars, an old red one and a nondescript gray one, are smashed into each other at a right angle. We all stare at them in silence until Mr. Avery lets out an exasperated sigh. “I’d better make sure no one was hurt.” He runs his eyes over all of us and zeroes in on Bronwyn as the most responsible of the bunch. “Miss Rojas, keep this room contained until I get back.”

“Okay,” Bronwyn says, casting a nervous glance toward Nate. We stay at the window, watching the scene below, but before Mr. Avery or another teacher appears outside, both cars start their engines and drive out of the parking lot.

“Well, that was anticlimactic,” Simon says. He heads back to his desk and picks up his cup, but instead of sitting he wanders to the front of the room and scans the periodic table of elements poster. He leans out into the hallway like he’s about to leave, but then he turns and raises his cup like he’s toasting us. “Anyone else want some water?”

“I do,” Addy says, slipping into her chair.

“Get it yourself, princess.” Simon smirks. Addy rolls her eyes and stays put while Simon leans against Mr. Avery’s desk. “Literally, huh? What’ll you do with yourself now that homecoming’s over? Big gap between now and senior prom.”

Addy looks at me without answering. I don’t blame her. Simon’s train of thought almost never goes anywhere good when it comes to our friends. He acts like he’s above caring whether he’s popular, but he was pretty smug when he wound up on the junior prom court last spring. I’m still not sure how he pulled that off, unless he traded keeping secrets for votes.

Simon was nowhere to be found on homecoming court last week, though. I was voted king, so maybe I’m next on his list to harass, or whatever the hell he’s doing.

“What’s your point, Simon?” I ask, taking a seat next to Addy. Addy and I aren’t close, exactly, but I kind of feel protective of her. She’s been dating my best friend since freshman year, and she’s a sweet girl. Also not the kind of person who knows how to stand up to a guy like Simon who just won’t quit.

“She’s a princess and you’re a jock,” he says. He thrusts his chin toward Bronwyn, then at Nate. “And you’re a brain. And you’re a criminal. You’re all walking teen-movie stereotypes.”

“What about you?” Bronwyn asks. She’s been hovering near the window, but now goes to her desk and perches on top of it. She crosses her legs and pulls her dark ponytail over one shoulder. Something about her is cuter this year. New glasses, maybe? Longer hair? All of a sudden, she’s kind of working this sexy-nerd thing.

“I’m the omniscient narrator,” Simon says.

Bronwyn’s brows rise above her black frames. “There’s no such thing in teen movies.”

“Ah, but Bronwyn.” Simon winks and chugs his water in one long gulp. “There is such a thing in life.”

He says it like a threat, and I wonder if he’s got something on Bronwyn for that stupid app of his. I hate that thing. Almost all my friends have been on it at one point or another, and sometimes it causes real problems. My buddy Luis and his girlfriend broke up because of something Simon wrote. Though it was a true story about Luis hooking up with his girlfriend’s cousin. But still. That stuff doesn’t have to be published. Hallway gossip is bad enough.

And if I’m being honest, I’m pretty freaked at what Simon could write about me if he put his mind to it.

Simon holds his cup up, grimacing. “This tastes like crap.” He drops the cup, and I roll my eyes at his attempt at drama. Even when he falls to the floor, I still think he’s messing around. But then the wheezing starts.

You really won't want to put it down!
By S
As a 29 year old reading a YA novel, I was pretty confident that I'd be able to figure out who killed Simon. I was very wrong!

The main characters are all teenagers, and like teenagers, they can be pretty cringy. There were plenty of parts that made me go "Oh god, start thinking with your brains, not your hormones!" You'd think that would be a bad thing, but I loved it, because these characters were very realistic. I'm tired of reading YA books where the main characters are wise old souls in 16 year old bodies. What teenager isn't a little annoying?

I can't wait for this to become the next big book sensation! I would not be surprised if it becomes a tv series.

Perfect Beach Read
By T
"You see us as you want to see us—in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions.”

Brian had it right when he wrote those words in the adored and highly quotable letter at the end of The Breakfast Club. The passage continues on to say: “But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...and an athlete...and a basket case...a princess...and a criminal. Does that answer your question?"

*Inserts fist pump into the air while fighting the urge to blast “Don’t You Forget About Me” throughout the living room.*

Nostalgia aside, I bring this up because the idea of labels and what lies underneath them is not only the plight of seemingly every high school movie, book, and experience, but also the core of the readability of One of Us is Lying.

The book’s murder mystery hook – aided by the Pretty Little Liars/Gossip Girl comparisons – probably lured you in along with the rest of us, but the characters and their development are what keep you invested.

And it’s a good thing too because I correctly identified the killer during the opening scene. And if solving the murder was the only thing this book had going for it, I would have been extremely disappointed. But for me, the question was never who, but rather why?

Why did Simon have to die?

Why – and how – were the Bayview Four involved?

Of course I can’t tell you the answers, but trust me when I say that McManus is able to keep you intrigued while you simultaneously fall for the brain, the athlete, the princess, and the criminal who all had motives and additional secrets to hide.

Narrated and told via alternating points of view, One of Us is Lying is full of intricate characterizations and sometimes predictable twists on the classic tropes. I often found myself highlighting one-liners from this debut author that accurately nailed and effectively portrayed the personalities of the “Murder Club” members.

From the sensible brainiac, Bronwyn, (“Mostly I thought Evan and I had potential to be a solid couple until graduation, at which point we'd break up amicably and head to our different colleges.”) to the dealer from the bad part of town, Nate, ("Rigging detention sounds like work, and everything about Nate -- from his messy dark hair to his ratty leather jacket -- screams Can't be bothered. Or yawns it, maybe.") you’ll find yourself relating to or remembering people that fit these molds.

Ultimately that’s what I enjoyed so much – getting beneath the surface. We all have people in high school that we knew on a superficial level that were probably remembered via their clique. One word descriptions. Nothing more. Nothing less. This book is yet another reminder of what can happen when you choose to dig a little deeper and stop caring what your friends think.

If you’re looking for an entertaining and quick read for the beach this summer, I’d highly recommend giving this novel a shot. Of course I could be lying, so you’ll have to judge for yourselves.

XOXO...

An Engaging, Fast Paced Mysterious Debut!
By Avid Reader
What makes a novel work, in my opinion, is mystery. McManus's debut novel is full of mystery and intrigue. Like many others have said, it grabs tight and doesn't let go until the end. There's a lot going on here. Yes, it's a young adult novel, but its themes deal with universal, every-age issues. I am not a young adult, but I found the characters compelling. They're at an age when hormones and emotions are blazing, so the scenarios are realistic and engaging. As someone who hasn't been in high school for some years now this story was a nice nostalgia trip too. Karen's prose is quick and vibrant. She gives you enough details to sketch the scene, but allows your mind to fill in the spaces. That's the sign of a great writer. Someone who sets the scene but doesn't overwhelm the mind with minute details. It makes for a fast-moving, thrilling adventure. This book was very engrossing. I only stopped reading it because I was too tired to continue...so I ended up reading it in two sittings. There were multiple times throughout the novel that I was convinced I knew who the guilty party was. I was wrong every time. I loved the reveal. A very promising debut. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next from McManus.

You Can Read Anyone, by David J. Lieberman

Have you ever wished you could peer into someone's mind to find out what he or she is really thinking? Now you can . . . really. This book is not a collection of recycled ideas about body language. It does not suggest that a woman's hairstyle will give us unprecedented access into her soul, neither does it draw wildly ambiguous generalities about people based on our intuition or gut instinct, nor does it reach conclusions based on how she folds her hands or he ties his shoelaces. This book contains specific, proven psychological techniques that can be applied instantly to any person in just about any situation. Dr. Lieberman has demonstrated the ease and accuracy of these techniques on hundreds of television and radio programs. In a special report for FOX News, host Jeff Rosin declared, it's simply amazing! I was with him and he was never wrong... not even once. I even learned how to do it and that's saying something. In fact, Dr. Lieberman has gone head-to-head on live television, with skilled polygraph examiners and scored just as well every time. You Can Read Anyone show step-by-step exactly how to tell what someone is thinking and feeling in real-life situations. For example, you will see precisely how to determine whether another poker player will stay in or fold, whether a salesperson is trustworthy, or whether or not a first date is going your way or the other way. And when the stakes are high negotiations, interrogations, questions of abuse, theft, or fraud - knowing who is out for you, and who is out to get you (or a loved one) can save you time, money, energy, and heartache.

Review
"Don't lie to David Lieberman." -- The New York Times, interview October, 1999

"In my more than 20 years of laws enforcement, I've never seen any lie-detecting techniques so uncannily accurate." -- Sheriff Richard Mack, popular consultant and media expert

"You Can Read Anyone," a new book by legendary behaviorist Dr. David J. Lieberman, uses proven psychological techniques to help figure out a person's thoughts and feelings in minutes.

An expert in human behavior and interpersonal relationships, he's written two New York Times bestseller titles on the subject - "Never Be Lied to Again" and "Get Anyone to Do Anything and Never Feel Powerless Again."

Lieberman harnesses specific psychological techniques that can be applied to any person in any situation - with startlingly accurate results. Whether it is in a poker game, a high-stakes negotiation, or a sales pitch, you can tell within minutes whether people are bluffing or telling the truth, bored or interested, an ally or saboteur.

He has also appeared on more than 200 television shows as an expert in the field. He has even gone "head-to-head" on live television, pitting himself against skilled polygraph examiners and scoring just as well every single time.

"'You Can Read Anyone' is not a fluffy collection of ineffective tips. Lieberman offers proven psychological techniques that deliver on their promise to get inside a person's head . . .with eerie accuracy. Of all his books, his latest, "You Can Read Anyone" is superior in every way . . . Dr. Lieberman's insights into human nature are breathtaking and practical. --- Focus Magazine -- review, Focus Magazine

How to understand people better than they understand themselves!!!
By STEPHEN PLETKO
XXXXX

"As the only one of its type, this program [or system outlined in this book] offers a complete, practical, easy-to-use system that you can use to measure a person's thoughts and feelings quickly, at any time."

The above quotation is found in the introduction of this fascinating book by Dr. David J. Lieberman, author and "internationally recognized leader" of human behavior and interpersonal relationships.

Be aware that the system in this book is not about reading someone based on their body language, their speech pattern, or how they dress. It is not about developing some mystical power such as telepathy. Instead, this book contains specific and proven psychological techniques that can be instantly applied to any person in almost any situation.

Is this system absolutely foolproof? Of course not. No system is. But you will gain a "statistical advantage" to reading a person by using the methods in this book.

The book itself is divided into two sections:

Section one (7 chapters) has techniques that will give you much insight into people, and will help you gain the advantage in practically every situation. Each chapter in this section is based on seven basic questions. These questions are as follows:

(1) Is this person hiding anything? (2) Does the person like or not like someone or something? (3) Is the person really confident or just attempting to play it cool? (4) How is a person really feeling? (5) Is the person really interested or are you just wasting your time? (6) Whose side is a person really on? (7) How safe, stable, and sane is a person...really?

Section two (8 chapters), my favorite section, actually goes beyond the basic techniques of section one thus giving you the ability to "peer into someone's mind to find out what [that person] is [really] thinking" and enables you to "understand a person better [than they] understand [themselves]."

Don't worry!! Lieberman gives plenty of real-world examples so you'll never be lost.

The system in this book allows you to gain much insight into a person's thinking and psyche without having to spend much time with that person. As Lieberman says,

"Once you become...familiar...with what to look for and what to listen to, your ability to read a person will become almost instinctual."

Finally, a fun feature of this book is that Lieberman provides an interesting quotation from others at the beginning of each chapter. Here are two of my favorites:

"Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." (Comedian George Carlin)

"Personality can open doors, but only character can keep them open." (E. G. Letterman)

In conclusion, besides giving you an effective way of reading people, this book, as well, will most certainly give you a better understanding of human nature and thus more insight into yourself!!!

(first published 2007; how to use this book; introduction; 2 sections or 15 chapters; conclusion; main narrative 180 pages; bibliography; about the author)

One of the top 10 self help books ever!
By O. Joseph
I have never reviewed a book before but I am so struck and disturbed by the cattiness and vindictiveness of Jen's "review" of a book, she admits to never reading, that I am writing my first one.

I am a lover of self help books. Name the big ones and I own it. I have read most of Lieberman's books and found them to be fast paced, insightful and easy to read. This book struck me as different because of the depth. The first part is cool techniques on how to read people and examples that make it usable and very relatable. I thought the part about how people use pronouns to distance themselves from events to be brilliant ( see page 34) Here is where I felt this book was different - the last couple of chapters were especially insightful and deep. It helped me to understand how self esteem colors the way we see the world. It helped me to understand what motivates people at the core and helped me to understand what motivates me. This is truly a OUTSTANDING book. One of the top 10 self help books that I have ever read.

Good Theory, but Always Requires Context
By J. Patterson
I have to admit that if this line wasn't in the book, I would have likely rated this book lower:

"Does this mean you will be able to read anyone with perfect precision, every time? No. The system is not 100 percent foolproof. However, you will gain a definitive statistical advantage in every encounter."

The theory mentioned in this text is sound, but without a good grasp of the context of a situation, the information here is useless. It's important to understand how someone is, the experiences that affect them, and the context of the situation (formal vs. informal for example) so that reactions can be gauged properly.

Another warning about this book: Some of the examples are unclear without a conceptualization of the context, and without a firm grasp of the concept being discussed. It's not unusual to need to reread sections of the book and (to an extreme) ask questions.

As far as who I would recommend this book for... Although the title of the book makes it sound ideal for everybody, it really takes both intelligence and a good character to apply the techniques properly and accurately. When I say good character, I mean someone who is good at avoiding the pitfalls of human nature, such as egotism. Keep in mind that this book is based on Psychological principles, some of which we ourselves are subject to and that can intefere with our ability to use the methods defined here effectively.

Wealth Management 2.0: Financial Education for Internet Professionals, by Andrei Polgar

I've always found it ridiculous that millions upon millions of individuals earn a living online, yet nobody thought about writing a book which teaches those people how to manage their money properly. Therefore, I've decided to roll up my sleeves and write one myself. Why? Simply because I also earn a living on the Internet and have been doing it since... well, since pretty much forever. Aside from that, I'm an economist and this unique (or feel free to call it weird) combination of street smarts and book smarts puts me in a reasonably good position to help people enhance the wealth they've generated online. If you earn a living online in one way or another (as a freelancer, as an online entrepreneur, as an indie author, as a domain investor, as a bitcoin early adopter, as an online trader, as a website flipper, as an online marketer and so on) or at least generate a significant percentage of your revenue online and want to find out how to manage your money wisely, this book is just what the doctor ordered. Throughout my career, I've been involved in a lot of different dimensions of the online world. I've been a freelancer. I've run an outsourcing business. I've invested in domains, offered domain brokerage services and even started an auction platform for domain names. I've started an escrow business, which has been sold to Agreed.com, which was then sold to Escrow.com... and which was ultimately sold to Freelancer.com. I even owned three Web hosting businesses. All in all, it's fairly safe to say I've seen the Internet under the hood, so to speak. Frankly, I'd say finding someone who understands those who make money on the Internet better than yours truly would be quite a challenge. No matter what it is you currently do online, chances are I've at least dabbled in it. As an economist, I consider myself well-balanced. I'm not a Keynesian. I'm not an Austrian Economist either. Nor do I blindly adhere to Monetarism. Unlike a lot of "guru economists" out there, I don't claim to be able to predict the future. In fact, I actually embrace this limitation (and make no mistake, we all have it: nobody on this planet can predict the future in an accurate and consistent manner) and make it a part of my wealth management approach. Will this book help you double your wealth in a month? No, it will not. Is it an "easy way out"-type book? I'm sorry but no. Wealth Management 2.0 is not an easy fix, nor is it a sleazy "one size fits all" approach that sounds good but has zero real world applicability. It's a common sense guide which, if used properly, can and will help you enhance your wealth in a sustainable manner. Writing the 450+ pages of Wealth Management 2.0 took over two years of blood, sweat, tears and sanity. I'm a perfectionist. I could have launched this book a lot sooner but didn't. It wasn't ready and I wasn't about to put my signature on a product I don't believe in 100%. It is most definitely ready now and to say I believe in it 100% would be the understatement of the century. This book means so much to me that a statement such as "I believe in it 100%" seems way too diluted. Whether people realize it or not, wealth management was, is and always will be a fundamental part of our existence. Make no mistake, all of those sayings about how keeping your money is harder than making it are definitely anchored in reality. The idea of managing your wealth may sound complicated but it fortunately isn't. Wealth management is lucrative, fascinating and (dare I say it) fun: give Wealth Management 2.0 a chance and I'm confident you'll end up agreeing with me!

By John Daly
I was reading the other day that most Americans are in irreparable debt, 25% are unable to come up with $2,000 in 30 days if needed and 63% don't have enough in savings to cover a $500 emergency.

My father was VP of Finance for NBC, CFO of Radio City Music Hall and then National Geographic, as a result I am financially inclined and value a proper education on managing one's wealth. Because of my history many of what's mentioned in this book to me is common sense, however considering the current state of the average American and European I believe anyone (or should I say "most people") that wishes to better understand his or her basic financial standing would be well suited to pick up a book like this.

If you're looking to explore how your finances should be approached, acquired and dispersed to optimize your short and longer term returns than have a look. This book can also be used as a point of reference, you're not pigeon holed to one topic of wealth management for a book to be read straight through, you can pick that chapters that are most relevant to you and skim accordingly.

Grounded Basic Money Advice that Will Last a Lifetime
By Amazon Customer
Unlike so many books that seem as though they are aimed at people with a nest-egg to invest, this book is also helpful to people with almost no wealth at all. If you can only save $100 a month, this book will help you turn that into real money. While some people are lucky enough to get wealthy in one windfall, most of us have to work our way there. Getting there requires 2 things: earning the money in the first place, and using/investing it wisely to grow it over the years. It's the second part that trips a lot of us up. This book is a greats start.

This book doesn't offer so much in the details and technicalities of investing as it does in the general mindset. Without the right mindset, your money will slip away, so this step is essential. The books addresses attitudes towards money, investing, family and friend issues, psychology and self-control (financial discipline). Really this is all you need. However you choose to invest your money, there is no one book that can give you all the details you will need. You will learn that as you go. This book, however, will get you started with the right footing and the right attitude.

The info here is useful to anyone making enough to put a couple hundred aside each month. And probably essential if you hope to turn that into wealth. This is the basic stuff one should internalize before moving on to more specific investment guides. Easy to read and conversational, it's no trouble getting through the book either. If I have to criticize anything, I might say it's too conversational. While most of the stories offer useful support for the points the author is making, sometimes they were more than I needed.

Again, the lack of specific investment advice might disappoint some, but the book is focused on mindset and attitude, sort of like Think and Grow Rich, or at least Think and Don't Grow Poor Again.

The book covers the important points really well, with each point summed up again at the end of each unit.

This is the book that people should buy before they buy any other investment book. It's the one that teaches you to stand and walk before attempting leaps and backflips.

Fantastic read for a change!!!
By Amazon Customer
This is a LONG book but then again, it's a book most people will finish rather quickly because it's entertaining and a page turner for sure. I can get headaches after reading a 10-page academic paper written in "gibberish" but give me hundreds of pages of well-written entertaining content and I'll love every minute of it.

And Wealth management 2.0 is surely in the second category. It's clear it was written by an economist who could have made it sound very academic if he wanted it to or if he wanted to "impress" his readers but I'm glad he didn't do it. Whenever economists try to impress me, I'm not impressed but rather annoyed. Being an expert at something doesn't mean trying to sound like a nobel prize winning genius with each word that comes out of your mouth. It means giving good information in a way that's easily digestible to your audience.

This isn't a book written for economists, it's a book written by an economist for people who make money on the net. I invest in domains for example so I'm one such person. I would have been bitterly disappointed if the book contained overly complex terminology and honestly would have stopped reading it very quickly. Instead, I was pleased with the writing style and obviously with the actual information.

Would highly recommend it to anyone in his target audience. Or come to think of it, I think even if you don't earn a living on the net and just want good, sound financial tips, you will be very happy you read this book
